Iowa Court Rules in Favor of Energy Company

Power LinesA recent ruling by the Iowa Supreme Court in favor of a solar energy company bodes well for the future of the solar power industry in the state of Iowa.

The case in question deals with power purchase agreements, which allow companies and individuals to generate their own power and sell it back to the municipal grid system. The supreme court of Iowa ruled last week that the Eagle Point Solar company would not be violating state law when it sells electricity to the city of Dubuque, Iowa, even though that electricity was generated using a solar panel installed on the roof of a city building. The Supreme Court of the state of Iowa made this ruling in a split decision.

Leaders in the solar power industry are calling this case monumental and insist that power purchasing agreements like this will pave the way for an increased number of solar projects in the state in the future.
